Open House Chicago 2015
More than 200 sites are opening their doors to Chicagoans and visitors alike during the October 17–18 weekend. The public is invited into these buildings as part of the Chicago Architecture Foundation's (CAF) annual Open House Chicago (OHC). Each year, OHC guests enjoy behind-the-scenes access to many of the city's great places.
When reviewing the OHC website and planning which places to visit, please be aware of the following:
- While all sites are free, a few require an RSVP (RSVPs are not available at this time. Please check the OHC website for updates.).
- A small number of sites are open exclusively to CAF members.
- OHC hours are 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. However, some sites have limited hours and/or may be open only one of the two days.
In addition to granting visitors a look inside their spaces, some sites will have performances, discussions, or creative activities. Last year, for example, The Moody Church had an organist performing on the church's beautiful 4,400-pipe organ (incredible sound, by the way!). Specifics for this year will be coming in early October, so be sure to check the OHC Programs page for updates.
Over the last few years, there has been a building, renovation, and remodeling boom in Chicago. OHC is a great time to check out some of these new or revamped buildings. The Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, 12 South Michigan Avenue (enter at 71 East Madison Street); Eight O Five, 805 North LaSalle Drive; Optima Chicago Center Luxury Apartments, 200 East Illinois Street; Virgin Hotels Chicago, 203 North Wabash Avenue; and W Chicago Lakeshore Hotel, 644 North Lake Shore Drive are a few examples of this growth that you'll want to put on your must-see list!
