Chicago Celebrates Shakespeare

April 23, 2016, marks the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. To commemorate the poet, playwright, and actor, the Chicago Public Library's Harold Washington Library Center, located at 400 South State Street, will be hosting free screenings of Shakespeare-related films courtesy of BBC Worldwide.

The above screenings are part of Shakespeare 400 Chicago, a citywide celebration of Shakespeare taking place throughout 2016. To learn about additional library offerings, please visit the Chicago Public Library online.

Many Chicago organizations will be taking part in this yearlong celebration. The Art Institute of Chicago's Supernatural Shakespeare exhibition, running from April 11 through October 10, highlights some of Shakespeare's impish faeries and interfering witches. Restaurateur and sommelier Alpana Singh and Chicago Shakespeare Theater's Creative Producer Rick Boynton developed and curated Culinary Complete Works. Throughout the year, a number of Chicago's talented chefs will each create a special dish, menu, or event relating to one of Shakespeare's plays.
