2017 Tuesdays on the Terrace
Updated July 18, 2017
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago has an exciting lineup (check it out below) planned for this summer's Tuesdays on the Terrace concert series. From June 13 through September 26, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., enjoy jazz performances on the MCA's Anne and John Kern Terrace Garden. If it rains, the concert moves inside to the Marjorie Blum Kovler Atrium. Concert admission is free.
Where Is the Terrace?
The terrace is located on the second floor on the east side of the MCA. From inside the museum, you can access the terrace by going to the second floor and then exiting through the doors on the east side. You can also get to the terrace by entering the lawn area from the path along the park located behind the museum and then walking up the steps to the terrace.
What Type of Seating Is Available?
If you don't have a reserved seat/table on the terrace (reserved tables will not be available in 2017; see the update below), there is a section of unreserved seating. These seats fill up quickly, so plan to arrive early. There is plenty of room to sit on the expansive lawn located just steps from the terrace. Throw down a blanket and get comfortable!
Note: Due to construction, reserved tables will not be available in June. Tables on the upper terrace will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Update: Due to construction delays, reserved tables will not be available in 2017. Tables on the upper terrace will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
What Is There to Eat and Drink?
Outside food and beverages are not allowed. If you plan to eat at the event, you can purchase food and beverages from the outdoor grill and bar stations located on the lawn and upper terrace. You can also make reservations (call 312.397.3805) for a table on the upper terrace. For $30 per person, enjoy a buffet featuring dishes created using locally grown produce. Buffet reservations will not be available in 2017 (see the update below).
Note: Due to construction, there will be limited dining options in June. You can purchase beverages and food from a limited grill menu at stations located on the lawn and upper terrace. The buffet and reserved tables will not be available. On July 4, regular food service will return.
Update: Due to construction delays, dining options will remain limited throughout 2017. Beverages and food from a simplified grill menu can be purchased at stations located on the lawn and upper terrace.
Free Museum Admission for Illinois Residents
The MCA offers Illinois residents free admission on Tuesdays. The MCA is currently open until 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, so arrive early and explore the museum before the concert, stay late and visit the museum after the concert . . . or do both!
